On May 10, 2012, approximately 1015 mountain daylight time, a Robinson R44 II helicopter, N7523S, conducted a forced landing following an autorotation near Grants, New Mexico.
The two commercial pilots were not injured. The helicopter was substantially damaged during the hard landing. The helicopter was owned and operated by iPrerogative Inc, Washington, Utah, under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a ferry flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight.
According to an initial statement provided by one of the pilots, the helicopter experienced a loss of engine power. The pilot then elected to performed an autorotation to a field. On landing, the helicopter's main rotor blades contacted and separated the tailboom. The wreckage was retained for further examination.
