STARS responds to 32 emergencies over long weekend

logo_starsSTARS air ambulance responded to 32 emergencies over the long weekend, including 19 inter-hospital missions and 13 direct to scene responses (landing on highways, open fields and other areas at or near incident locations). The Edmonton base flew the most missions relative to other bases, responding to 15 emergencies from Friday to Monday at 5:30 p.m. MDT. The Calgary base responded to 10 emergencies, Regina and Winnipeg responded to 3 each, and the Grande Prairie base responded to 2 emergencies.

Twelve STARS flights funded thanks to $100,000 donation

logo_starsThe cost of 12 STARS emergency responses have been paid for thanks to a $100,000 gift by Weatherford directed towards the new Fund-a-Flight program. The donation, which will fund one flight a month for the span of a year, is part of an ongoing partnership between the two organizations that began in 2005. In that timeframe, Weatherford has donated over $328,000 to STARS.

STARS begins night missions from Regina base

logo_starsToday STARS air ambulance is beginning 24-hour-a-day operations at its Regina base. Until now, the STARS Regina base has only operated 12-hours per day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Now that the majority of clinical and aviation staff have had time to become comfortable with the terrain and providing service in an air medical environment, the time is right to expand those hours.

Ornge Board Begins Search for New CEO

logo_orngeThe Board of Directors for Ornge, a not-for-profit air ambulance and critical care land transport provider serving the Province of Ontario, today announced that the search for a permanent President & Chief Executive Officer has begun. Following a formal request for proposals and rigourous selection process, Ornge’s Board has engaged the international executive search firm of Spencer Stuart to conduct the search, which is expected to conclude in the fall.
